Cleveland Local Talent Tap Into The Gold Mine
Cleveland has has more local talent than it has poverty. Many of the acts I have worked with had a sound that could go national. Unfortunately many of them lacked the business skills to make the leap.
I love local shows because it gives you the ability to breed the cities next headliner. I can not count how many artist started their career on the "Freshstyles" tour and a lot of them are still doing their thing big time in the scene today.
You should find yourself a good local host and some talented local DJ's. If you need some fresh local talent you can check out our artist registration section and see who is available in the area and looking for exposure.
I always made first time local artist sell tickets because it helped me to see who had what it takes to succeed and it also made it very easy for me to see who should perform at what time.
If you do good business you will have the advantage over the competition. You should always treat the artist with respect. You should let them know you are expecting them to learn along the way.
Do not forget to video record as much as possible. You can use the footage to help new artist see what needs improvement and stock footage for the day you decide to do a website or DVD.
It is important to print out a stage performance time sheet. You need to make sure that all the artist understand that if they do not perform on time than they will not perform unless there is time at the end of the show.
Eventually your best groups should start throwing their own shows. So, you should not be surprised when your best group tells you they are throwing their first event.
I love local Cleveland music so it is easy for me to support the local scene. I always think to myself once we have a steady stream of new promoters and new artist the scene will expand and develop into a huge platform for Clevelanders' to express themselves.
Many promoters also bring headliners to hype their show up...
