Rocking the crowd is one of the best feelings I have ever had the joy of experiencing in my 26 years on this earth. The only thing better than taking control of the crowd and pumping life into the party is getting all the well deserved props all night from everybody who watched.

Lucky for me, our group Champagne Family has opened for a lot of headliners over the last six year period. We have also co-headlined our own shows for about three years as well as performed, what feels like, a hundred shows for various Cleveland promoters.

The good news is with a home computer you can start making music today. I always recommend this as a pre-mix technique even if you plan to spend the money on professional quality. This technique really helps everyone get the feeling of the song and make final adjustments if needed.

Many people are able to put out great quality from their home studio and because of this they have no need to go to a professional. I have had a home studio for about six years. It was one of the best trades I ever made. I think I traded my dude, Darrell, some PPI subs in a W box for a gateway CPU tower.

At first all my studio consisted of was a computer and a mic ducked taped to a broom stick that was wedged under the monitor speaker. Despite the crappy equipment I was still able to make some very popular music and in my humble opinion the songs Lost Dialect I recorded on that $8 radio shack mic still sound tight today... Not Professional quality but definitely bumpin quality.

At first the key is to make tons of music, burn it and play it every where you go. People will tell you what vocals sound high or low and anything else that sounds non-rhythmic.

It is a good thing people in Cleveland are always ready to critique. Take peoples advice on matters concerning sound quality. I always find extra ears help. Over time you will gain the experience as you go and If you are like me you will hunt the information you are looking for out, probably online.

I have seen a lot of artist start off with a buzz and slowly lose faith. It can be frustrating when being a good artist is only 10% of the equation. Some of the best artist I have ever met do the worst business and for that I can not work with them.

You will very quickly learn that this is a business and you have to function with-in the promoters guidelines to get exposure or create your own sub-scene by promoting your own shows.

I always preferred the second route because you control all the factors involved, most importantly stage time. Either way you are going to be doing a lot of hip hop from now on...
